We are looking for an Accounts Assistant who shares our vision and values to accelerate the deployment of our next-generation waste-to-energy tech.
Salary: £25,000 – £30,000
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays

WASE exists to accelerate sustainable waste and energy innovation to protect the planet for future generations. You will be joining a fast-growing startup that is starting to grow internationally and has backing from global industrial partners, including Hitachi and Engie.
The role is a great opportunity for an ambitious individual either graduating from a related field or currently working in transactional finance to launch their accounting career with genuine purpose and growth. This role blends foundational finance responsibilities with increasing complexity as you develop professionally, offering a pathway toward an accountancy qualification (such as ACCA or CIMA). Working closely with our Financial Controller, you’ll gain hands-on experience across multiple finance functions, witnessing your impact on our growing organisation. Key Responsibilities:
- Progressive increase in responsibility under mentorship of the Financial Controller
- Initial focus on core accounts payable tasks including processing purchase orders, matching bills to payments, and assisting with payment runs
- Gradually take on month-end responsibilities including prepayments and accruals preparation
- Assist with VAT return preparation
- Track and maintain records for company equipment and assets
- Support loan and lease reconciliations
- Contribute to cash flow reporting and forecasting
- Develop understanding of financial controls and procedures within a growing start-up
Skills and Traits:
- Graduate in a numerate degree or equivalent professional experience (e.g. AAT Level 4)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Eagerness to learn and develop professional accounting skills
- Fantastic attention to detail with good organisational abilities
- Proficiency with Excel and willingness to learn accounting software
- Interest in pursuing professional accountancy qualifications
Bonus Skills:
These are not essential please apply if you have no experience in this area.
- Experience in purchase ledger/accounts payable roles
- Proficiency with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks
- Experience handling multiple currencies
- Experience of using one or more task management tools (MS Planner, Trello, Jira, ClickUp, Monday.com, etc.)
