The UN just dropped a new global water assessment, and the headline is blunt: We’ve entered an era of “water bankruptcy.” Essentially, we’re spending our freshwater faster than the planet can deposit it.

The UN’s takeaway is clear: “incremental improvements” (aka just trying a little harder) won’t cut it. We need a systemic reboot.

From “WASTEwater” to “Liquid Asset”

At WASE, we don’t see a water crisis, we see a huge waste of resources. Most people look at wastewater and see an expensive problem to be hauled away in a tanker and pumped away for someone to deal with. We look at it and see a goldmine of energy and clean water.

Take our work with Hepworth Brewery in West Sussex. Brewing notoriously is thirsty work; it can take up to six pints of water to make just one pint of beer.

Traditionally, that leftover “effluent” is a logistical and carbon nightmare. We helped them flip the script, installing a fully circular wastewater-to-energy system. We treat 17m³ of wastewater daily right on-site and directly feed it into the local ecosystem, returning the clean water back into a water-stressed region.

How we’re rewriting the script:

We don’t just filter water; we re-engineer the process using Electro-Methanogenic Reactors (EMR). Here is why that matters:

  1. 10x Faster: We don’t have time for “slow.” Our tech treats waste at ten times the speed of traditional anaerobic digestion.
  2. More Power, Less Hassle: We turn that “gross stuff” into biogas with up to 80% methane content. That’s clean, on-site energy you can actually use to power your operations.
  3. Small Footprint, Big Impact: Our systems are 50-70% smaller than conventional tech. Because they’re modular “plug-and-play” units, they fit into your existing setup without a massive construction project.
  4. Smart & Remote: You’ve got a business to run. Our AI and biosensors monitor the system 24/7, so you get maximum efficiency with zero “lab coat” required.

Solutions for every site (Snails included)

Our tech is flexible. For some partners, like Hepworth, we can even integrate nature-based solutions like reed beds to provide a final “polish” before the water is returned to the local environment. At Hepworth, this helps protect rare local species in a drought-prone region, showing that high-tech and high-nature can live side-by-side.

We’re so confident in this circular loop that we launched the Nexus Series with Hepworth to promote a truly circular brew.  Liquid Asset, a light refreshing lager is to promote water as the most valuable resource on Earth. As it is the only reason we are all here. It proves that water security isn’t just a corporate goal; it’s something you can actually drink.

The Bottom Line

Water stress isn’t a “2050 problem.” It’s a “right now” reality. The UN says the era of bankruptcy is here, but we’re here to help you stay in the black.

As Hepworth proves, the solutions don’t have to be boring or overly academic. They can be modular, nature-positive, and carbon-neutral.
